Having spent 20+ years in the entertainment industry working either for movie studios or an exhibitor (industry jargon for a theatre chain) the magic of going to the movies never looses its appeal. Yes, no matter which side you are working on—it’s big business, but it’s a business that entertains and provides people a chance to escape to another world if only for a couple hours.
As manager of the entertainment division at Barclay Communications our job, and it’s a big job, is to promote the many studios we represent and make their film the want to see film of the week. To do this we take a many pronged approach. We create promotions, stunts, set advance promotional and word of mouth screenings, seek out appropriate niche audiences, implement grassroots activities, secure publicity coverage—both reviews and features all in an extremely short time frame. And of course, public appearance tours where talent for a film will come to town and we secure in person interviews. Check out the various events and activities posted throughout the site to get an idea of the what we do.
The most common thread you will find within the entertainment division at Barclay Communications is creativity and the enthusiasm to make it happen. Our brainstorming sessions get a little noisy and no idea is too crazy—some of our best work happens because one comment can set off a great idea.
Barclay Communications is fortunate to handle many studio clients who give us the opportunity to work on big event films aimed at all audiences and smaller ‘art’ films with a more targeted audience. In addition to Phoenix, we handle several other southwest markets for many of our clients including Tucson, Las Vegas and Albuquerque. I know I have discovered there are groups for everything—did you know Phoenix has a passionate group dedicated to surfing—it’s the desert—who would have thought?
As one of the largest markets in the country and probably one of the hottest, people here like to see movies. Also, we have some of the best theatres in the country, with the majority of them offering stadium style seating and state of the art sound. Our job is to make you want to come to the movies!
